Metzgerei Mair was founded in 1954 by Adolf Mair, a native of Partschins/Parcines, in Taufers in Münstertal. Even in his early years, the master butcher recognised that a trusting relationship with the local farmers was a basic prerequisite for quality work. With a second shop in Glurns/Glorenza, his butcher's shop developed into a permanent local supplier, supported by close relationships with the farmers in the area.

As the founders Adolf and Rosa Mair had no children, their niece Margit and her husband Ernst Kuenrath joined the business in the 1980s. They modernised the business and later handed it down to their children Karoline and Roland Kuenrath, who are now the third generation to ensure continuity and further development.

In-house slaughter and assured origin

Personal selection of the animals, regional processing and an extended range of services are part of everyday working life.

In addition to their newly renovated headquarters in Glurns, which also houses a historic inn, the family runs a second sales outlet in Mals. The local Obervinschgau/Alta Val Venosta district abattoir in Mals has been run by Metzgerei Mair for 20 years. The butcher's shop therefore slaughters its own meat as well as processing meat from around the region. It supplements this with purchases from other areas, as there are only a few pig farmers in Vinschgau.

The animals are always selected personally and with professional expertise. The company's own handmade speck forms the centrepiece of the product range and is mainly sold to private customers and local restaurants. The company has also established itself as a reliable supplier of meat and sausage products in the local supply chain.

In recent years, numerous parcels filled with the popular Speck Alto Adige PGI have also been sent to private customers across the border via online mail order.
