Speckfest in St. Magdalena / Villnöss – Funes
on Saturday and Sunday the 3rd - 4th October 2009
Alone the place where the Speckfest 2009 is going to be held is amazing. It is in fact in the valley where the famous climber Reinhold Messner was born i.e. at the feet of the Geisler / Odle mountains, one of the worldwide beloved and famous mountain groups.
This great event will be devoted to the traditional dry-cured smoked ham “Südtiroler Speck g.g.A / Speck dell’Alto Adige IGP”.
On this occasion, as every year, a Speck Queen will be crowned. Last year the clarinettist Sonja Profanter has been awarded to this title after delighting the visitors by playing a wonderful solo.
Anyway, the tradition cannot just be traced in the products or in the popular culture but also in the bizarre ideas and attractions that every year the famous Speck cutter “Gletscherhons” performs in order to amaze his visitors.
However, what is going to surprise us this year will still be kept secret!
